Troubleshooting
IPTV 'Maximum Connections' Error: How to Fix It
Every IPTV account has a limit on the number of devices that can watch at once (simultaneous connections). When you exceed it a stream does not open on a new device or an existing stream is cut. The message can be 'maximum connections reached' or just a plain 403 depending on the server.
Quick fix steps
- See how many connections are in use and the allowed limit with the Xtream Login Tester.
- Close the stream on other devices (phone, tablet, second TV).
- Close the app and wait 1-2 minutes; the server clears the session.
- If someone else uses the same list, change your password.
- If you need more devices ask your provider for a multi-connection plan.
Tools to fix the problem
In-depth explanation
How does the limit work?
The server counts each open stream as a connection; changing channels on a device opens a new connection and closes the old one shortly after. If the player does not close the stream properly (for example switching the TV off directly) the session looks open on the server for a while and fills the limit by mistake. That is why 'I am watching on one device but it says the limit is exceeded' is common; waiting a few minutes fixes it.
In the Xtream Login Tester the 'Connections' field shows the number of sessions open now and the allowed number.
Could someone else be using the account?
If the password was shared or leaked in a list, the account can be used beyond your permission. If the connection count keeps hitting the limit ask your provider to change the password. Do not share account details in public places.
For many devices at once
Some providers offer plans with 2, 3 or more connections. To share with family you need a multi-connection account. Also, watching the same stream on several screens uses a separate connection for each; with multi-screen viewing bandwidth multiplies too (IPTV Bandwidth Calculator).
