IPTV 'Authentication Failed' Error: Causes and How to Fix It

If you get 'authentication failed', 'login failed' or 'wrong username or password' while logging in with an Xtream Codes based IPTV account, the cause is usually one of five things: mistyped details, a wrong server address, an expired account, an exceeded connection limit or a server block. Going through them in the order below usually finds the problem in a few minutes.

Quick fix steps

  1. Copy the details again from your provider's e-mail; make sure there is no space at the start or end.
  2. Check the server address: http:// or https://, host and port correct; /get.php or /c/ must not be appended.
  3. Use the Xtream Login Tester to see the account status, expiry date and connection count.
  4. If expired or the connection limit is exceeded, renew or close streams on other devices.
  5. If it still fails try a different player identity and tell your provider.

Tools to fix the problem

In-depth explanation

The most common causes

Wrong username or password: an invisible space when copying, case differences ('l' versus 'I'). Wrong server address or port: the same provider may have several servers and the account is defined on only one. Expired account: 'auth: 0' or 'Expired' comes back. Connection limit exceeded: the account is in use on more devices than allowed at once. Server block: some servers reject foreign IPs, VPNs or unknown player identities.

Most of these are told apart in seconds with the Xtream Login Tester: it shows the account status, the expiry date and how many connections are in use.

Server and network side

If the address is right and the account active, the problem is in the network: check with the Server Ping Test whether the server can be reached. Your modem or provider may block some ports (for example 8080, 25461); in that case ask for the server's address on port 80 or 443. If login works on mobile data but not on home internet a provider or DNS block is likely; try the steps in the DNS Chooser.

If you use a VPN, turn it off and try; many providers automatically block VPN exit IPs.

Player-specific tips

In IPTV Smarters the 'URL' field must be only the base address; the same in TiviMate. If you log in with M3U check with the M3U Validator that the whole link (with the username and password parameters) was copied completely. For passwords with special characters use the Xtream to M3U Converter output; the password is encoded correctly for the URL.

Frequently asked questions

What does the error 'auth: 0' mean?

The server rejected authentication: wrong details, or the account is expired or blocked.

It works in another app with the same details?

The app may be adding an extra path to the address field or be sensitive to User-Agent; use the base address and try a different player identity.

Should I change my password?

If you suspect it was compromised ask your provider to renew it.

I cannot log in although it has not expired?

Check the connection limit and server maintenance; report to your provider with the server name and time.
